VERY honest.

Many women/girls who read this will push back. But they know it's true.

Many chicks on social media are not unlike alcoholics. The first step to recovery is excepting that you have a problem. I fucking absolutely hate that saying, but it does have some truth to it.

I'm a man, and I have two sons, so most of this I don't have to concern myself with. But I really do feel for anyone trying to raise a girl, or girls these days.

Things are so elevated compared to when I was a kid. Like the ex Google Exec said, "Everything that these kids do online is immortalized." or something to that effect. You can't run away from your past because it's ALWAYS going to be there. That is, if you put everything online. But even if you don't, other people can tag you in pictures and you can be unwillingly roped in anyway.

When I was young I loved the idea of the Internet, but not for any of the reasons that people love it now. I liked the gaming aspect, and the information sharing. Back then there was no social media, just email. We were nerds! Now everyone is a nerd, because they can't be separated from their pocket computers.

Great piece though! You nailed it. I'm going to recommend this to everyone I know who is raising girls.

It’s interesting to hear this from a woman’s perspective. For instance, I remember admiring Peachy Keenan’s writing, knowing she was a female author behind a painting avatar. Then, when she revealed her face in interviews for her book tour, I suddenly started to reevaluate her separately from her writing. Before, it was just her words, now I could not help but think she was more attractive than I had anticipated (not sure how I could have ever guessed her physical attractiveness from her writing). Another commentator mentioned how he can tell female versus male writers within only a few sentences. Do you think that is the case that the two sexes can be identified easily from common writing styles? Thanks for your article about this issue!

Nice piece... Funny I just thought about that song when you wrote about the rain.

Since this whole piece is about not doing what most people are doing, I can think of another Garbage song that works...
